Juan Manuel Martinez Jr. was born on October 12, 1970 in Encino, California. Juan, aged 50, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2020. He married his childhood sweetheart Melisa and together they raised 2 adult children, Ariela and Ricardo. He graduated from Huntington Park High School in 1988, attended East Los Angeles College (ELAC) in 1989 and transferred to California State University of Los Angeles where he obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering in 1998. His perseverance and passion for constructing and building led him to work for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineering as a Civil Engineer in which he dedicated 28 years of Federal Civil Service. Juan was not just a civil engineer, he was a genuine colleague and a friend.

Juan’s biggest trait was his selflessness. He enjoyed volunteering in public schools and giving back to the community he grew up in. Juan enjoyed speaking and working with students from Kindergarten to third grade to get them inspired to love and enjoy STEM/STEAM and become Engineers or know that they can become anything they want to be brought him so much joy. Juan was instrumental in shaping many lives, young and old.

When we think about Juan, all we can think about is the word legacy. He had so much love for life, for the joy he gave to others, for the experiences he had. Legacy doesn’t mean money or fame. Legacy is all about the mark you make on another person’s life. It’s about the love you spread and the kindness you share. Juan interacted with hundreds of people throughout his life and they shared how fortunate and honored THEY were to have known Juan. We will be forever grateful to have been part of his family and experiences his unconditional love. That’s a Legacy!!
