Javier Román Scholarship Fund

Javier Roman was a husband, father, grandfather, and dedicated community member with an unwavering devotion to his family and friends. As a first-generation immigrant, Javier spent most of his life working to provide for his family. Although Javier only attained a third-grade education, he understood the value of higher education and built his legacy by ensuring his children had opportunities to attend college.

He found immense joy in giving back to those most in need. As someone who knew first-hand the immigrant experience and the challenges of holding minimum-wage jobs and learning a new language, he made it his mission to help those with need. That was just his nature.

By helping with the scholarship, the investment will benefit many AB540 students needing monetary assistance to pursue their educational goals. The personal impact that simple acts of kindness will help change the trajectory of many AB540 student lives. As a family, when determining how to honor Javier’s memory best, a scholarship seemed like a perfect way to ensure his legacy and generosity continued.

Javier reminds us never to give up on our dreams, to find joy in the simple things, and to take on life’s challenges with grace, grit and tenacity. He taught us that life’s true purpose is to serve others and help uplift those who are most in need. He will be remembered for his work ethic and compassion for others. Javier leaves a family that will carry on his legacy of community love and servitude.

This Javier Roman Scholarship Fund will pay tribute to his legacy and provide AB 540 students opportunities to advance their educational careers. The scholarship has been established to assist students with two $250 Scholarships (annually).
