Bryan C. Ventura Student Equity Scholarship

Bryan C. Ventura began his career at East Los Angeles College (ELAC) in 2013, one of the nine colleges in the Los Angeles Community College District. Since joining the district, Mr. Ventura has held every position in Institutional Research from Assistant Research Analyst, Research Analyst, Associate Dean, and Dean. Most recently, as the Dean of the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Advancement at ELAC, Mr. Ventura oversees institutional research, planning, professional development, distance education, a Title V grant, and learning assessment. Mr. Ventura also teaches as an adjunct faculty for the Child, Family, and Education Studies department at ELAC.

At ELAC, Mr. Ventura has led the implementation of college activities with a student-centered approach and equity lens. He has worked tirelessly as a voting member on nearly every shared governance committee and on several initiative workgroups. Mr. Ventura’s impact expands beyond ELAC. He joined the RP Group Board in July 2020 and represents the Los Angeles County region. As an RP Board member, Mr. Ventura has engaged and led equity-minded and anti-racist efforts to transform the Institutional Research field across California Community Colleges. Mr. Ventura believes that research can help institutions become more equitable and just, and strives to produce high quality, reliable, and practical research to advance student equity and success.

Mr. Ventura has studied education for over 10 years and has served in various education-related roles, including education advocate, education program evaluator, teaching assistant, alternative school program coordinator, and afterschool tutor. Mr. Ventura considers himself a data-geek and enjoys analyzing both qualitative (non-numbers) and quantitative (numerical) data related to education. He earned a BA in Social Sciences at the University of California, Irvine, and his MA in Education with an emphasis on Race and Ethnic Studies at the University of California, Los Angeles. Mr. Ventura began a PhD program in Urban Education at the University of California, Los Angeles and hopes to complete the program in the near future.

In addition to his exceptional track record, Mr. Ventura has served as role model, leader, and mentor for his colleagues, staff, and students. What makes Mr. Ventura special is his commitment to making this world a better place and giving opportunities to those who have been minoritized and marginalized. Mr. Ventura has a huge heart, sees the best in everyone, and never fails to make someone laugh.
